Purple Reign, Black, and Plenty of Style: A Fashionable Night at Glee Hotel

There’s something about an invite that mentions a dress code. For me, it instantly sets the mood. It’s a thrill. I genuinely believe a well-thought-out dress code adds character and glam to any gathering, especially when guests embrace it.

So, you can imagine our excitement when we received an invitation to a media and content creators’ gathering for a chef’s table experience at the soft launch of Glee Hotel. The dress code? Royal purple, black, or gold elegance. A palette that’s not only striking and regal, but one that effortlessly elevates the atmosphere. These aren’t colors you just stumble upon in your wardrobe — they’re intentional, bold, and they say: this is no ordinary evening.

Fast forward to Thursday evening at 6 PM — the day of the event. From the moment we arrived, the mood was set. The venue had gone all out with the theme. Think fresh florals—mostly purple—spilling across the hotel lobby and climbing toward the Peacock Restaurant and Bar, an Indian and Pan Asian restaurant, an elegant space that matched the vibe perfectly.

I went for a deep purple shirt, crisp black trousers, and a beige trench coat — effortlessly stylish, I’d like to think. But it was the guests who truly stole the spotlight. The fashion was fashioning. From flowing purple gowns and velvet blazers to gold accessories that caught the light just right, everyone came dressed right, a vision. Everyone had clearly put thought into their outfits, making the space feel like a curated blend of style, color, and creativity. It was one of those rare evenings where you could tell, just by the fashion, that something special was about to unfold.

After soaking in the fashion and florals, the evening kicked off with cocktails — the perfect icebreaker. Glasses clinked as guests mingled, complimenting each other’s looks, snapping photos and posting on Instagram stories, and catching up. It was one of those rare nights where networking felt effortless, surrounded by style and good energy. The ladies particularly stood out.

Soon after, we were ushered to a beautifully set dining area for a sit-down dinner featuring a curated set menu. But the most delightful surprise? A live chef’s counter experience where we got to watch the chefs prepare our starters right in front of us. It added a theatrical twist to the evening — think sizzling pans, artful plating, and commentary from the culinary team as they explained the inspiration behind each dish. There was plenty to eat from the canapes to the starters to the main course and desserts and more to drink, as the hotel’s bartenders crafted signature drinks that looked as good as they tasted.

The rest of the evening flowed nicely with plenty of laughter, the music matched the mood, and conversations lingered in corners and along the terrace, all set against the backdrop of the glittering Nairobi skyline. It was a beautiful view, albeit a chilly one—July has certainly shown up with its drop in temperatures. But between the warm company, good food, and flowing cocktails, no one seemed to mind the cold.
