NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 3 — Swedish automobile manufacturer Roam Electric has signed a deal with Kengra Logistics to promote the use of electric motorcycles in Trans Nzoia County.
The partnership between the two firms will see Kengra Logistics as the official distributor of electric motorcycles in the Western part of Kenya.
According to Kengra Logistics Managing Director Grace Wanjau, electric motorcycles are the way to go since they not only save money in the long run but help curb air pollution as well.
“This idea of electric motorcycles is because we thought that we need to save our environment and we also realized that the electric motorcycle saves money,” she stated.
Welcoming the partnership, she noted that it has come at the right time as Kenyans are feeling the pain at the pump.
“I applaud Roam Electric for such a wonderful initiative that will help reduce fuel costs for our motorists and boda boda riders, especially during these tough times. This will, hopefully, translate to cheaper fares for commuters,” added Wanjau.
The 150cc motorcycle will retail at Sh220,000 and the price is expected to go down to Sh. 195,000 in January 2023 and will further drop to Sh. 185,000 in June 2023.
The showroom for the electric motorcycle will be at the Kitale International School ground which is located along Kitale-Webuye road.
Kenya is transitioning to the green-energy as more buyers are opting for hybrid vehicles as well that use both fuel and electricity as a bid to save incurring costs of buying fuel, whose prices are up.
