Nairobi, Kenya, Feb 11- President William Ruto on Saturday skipped the burial of the late former Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha in Siaya.
Magoha died on January 24 at Nairobi Hospital after suffering a heart attack.
The funeral was attended by his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga who led former government officials and Azimio leaders.
At the time of Magoha’s burial, Ruto was in Naivasha for the Ordinary Session of the National and County Government’s Coordinating Summit ahead of a church service in Nakuru on Sunday.
Ruto’s Deputy Rigathi Gachagua was also not present at Magoha’s final sendoff at Uriri village in Siaya county.
Ruto’s message of condolence was read by Information Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo.
The Head of State mourned Magoha as a patriot who loved his country and enjoyed serving it.
He said that Magoha could not entertain mediocrity and did not hesitate to call out the culprits in plain language during his time in public service.
“I will always remember professor Magoha as a thought leader, an energy work and a frank man who did not mince his words,” Ruto said.
President Ruto further pointed out that his dedication while serving as Education Cabinet Secretary saw him keep children in school.
“He will be remembered as a spirited go-getter, this focused gentleman did his utmost to do rally teams around beliefs and courses,” he added.
