SIAYA, Kenya, Oct 28 – Civil Society organizations (CSOs) in Siaya will petition president William Ruto to dissolve Siaya county government should the area assembly continue frustrating the local governor, James Orengo from performing his duties.
Through the Siaya CSOs network, the organisations lamented that the current stalemate where a section of the assembly leadership was issuing threats to the executive was affecting governance and delivery of services.
Addressing the media in a Siaya town hotel today, the CSO officials said in a statement read on their behalf by the Executive Director of Siaya Muungano Network Ms. Shirleen Adhiambo Otieno, that they will soon launch a signature collection drive to petition the President to dissolve Siaya County government.
They urged both the County Assembly and the Executive, of putting their self-interests above service to the people.
They accused the county assembly of frustrating the budget making and implementation processes and using impeachment threats to drive their selfish interests.
The CSOs further accused the county assembly of failing to respect the principle of separation of power, adding that there was no way they could be allowed to usurp the role of the executive while at the same time purport to play their oversight role.
They gave the County leadership three weeks to solve the matter failure to which they shall begin a signature collection drive with a view of sending the entire leadership home so that a new administration that will serve the interests of the people is put in place.
