Flowers are beautiful and have the incredible ability to brighten our days and make us happy. Their vibrant colors, delicate fragrances, and intricate petal designs can bring joy and a sense of wonder to our lives. Kenyan is a blessed nation that not only produces tones and tones of flowers, but continues to be one of the world’s largest exporter of flowers, raking in over $766M in Cut Flowers, that in turn makes the fresh produce among the top foreign exchange sources alongside tea, diaspora remittances and tourism.
It is for this reason that Rosemary Kimunya, a floral enthusiast and founder, Kenya Flower Festival is on a mission to not only help Kenyans embrace the flower culture, but also, learn how to arrange flowers and take care of them, in their homes and gardens. Every year, Rosemary hosts a series of events dubbed Sip and Arrange, an exclusive and intimate flower club/community event that brings together floral designers and arrangers, flower lovers, and floristry enthusiasts.
On Saturday 14h October 2023, The Kenya Flower Festival hosted its third edition of Sip and Arrange dubbed Blooming Sustainability: a festival of art, music and blooms at the serene gardens of the lovely Fairview Hotel, Nairobi.
The event was a harmonious blend of friendship, creativity, and a touch of elegance, with the clinking of glasses and the joyous chatter filling the air as ladies enjoyed an afternoon of wine, food and conversation which then culminated into the flower arrangement class. It was a therapeutic experience, a form of art that allowed them to express their innermost thoughts.
Rosemary believes that flowers have a unique ability to connect people, to brighten their lives, and to create lasting memories. She says, “Don’t just wait for special occasions to buy flowers. Go out there and make flowers part of your everyday life. Flowers should be bought on any day.”
As the evening drew to a close, the women admired their creations, each bouquet a reflection of their personalities and the stories they had shared.
