NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 21 – Stanbic Bank has appointed Joshua Oigara as its new Regional Chief Executive for East Africa, effective September 1, 2025, subject to regulatory approval.

The appointment comes as Patrick Mweheire concludes his five-year term as Regional Chief Executive on August 31, 2025. Mweheire will, however, continue serving as Chief Executive Officer of Stanbic Kenya Holdings.

Oigara, who currently heads Stanbic Bank Kenya, will now assume additional responsibilities overseeing the lender’s operations across East Africa. His expanded mandate comes as the bank accelerates its footprint in one of Africa’s fastest-growing financial markets.

“We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Joshua Oigara as Regional Chief Executive, East Africa, effective 1st September 2025,” the bank said in a statement, adding that the role remains subject to regulatory approval.

The lender also paid tribute to Mweheire, crediting him with expanding Stanbic’s regional presence and positioning the franchise for sustained growth.

Stanbic Bank Kenya, a subsidiary of Standard Bank Group, is licensed and regulated by the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK).

The bank said the leadership reshuffle aligns with its strategic focus on East Africa as a hub for regional growth, with Kenya as the anchor market.
