NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 9 – The Cabinet Secretary ministry of information, communication and the digital economy Eliud Owalo has assured Kenyans on security of their data as the government plans to develop more ICT infrastructure across the country.
The CS in a speech read by Juliana Yiapan, Secretary of Administration State Department of Broadcasting and Communication during digital innovation day conference said the government was committed to moving over 5,000 services to online to ease accessibility by Kenyans.
“We are investing massively in key ICT enablers and developing ICT infrastructure across the country for more connectivity”, Owalo explained.
Owalo said digital ICT system has proved to more secure as compared to traditional paper based alternatives as people are able to be automatically alerted whenever their information is being accessed by a third party.
“Ï truly believe that digital identity is one of the most exciting opportunities for growth and security of the country’s economy,” the CS added.
GEDA Chairman John Waweru said digital revolution across the world has seen many businesses migrate to fully digital but caution that the process cannot be complete unless online identity is trustworthy.
“Digital signatures increases transparency of online interactions and development of trust between customers, business partners and vendors”, Eng. Waweru explained.
Waweru said digital signatures help in identifying genuine holders of the certificates eliminating chances of fraud.
He said digital certificates contains public key to individuals or organizations which are digitally signed by a certificate authority which is a trusted third party that validates a person’s identity and either generate a public-private key on behalf of the associates or an individual.
