NAIROBI, KENYA, MARCH 9- President William Ruto says that the government is seeking additional funds to see the completion of the Thwake dam by mid-year.
Speaking in Unoa ground in Makueni county yesterday, the president stated that there was a shortage of funds and the government has approached the African Development Bank who have agreed to finance the project with Sh7 billion.
“You have asked me about water. I was here and I assured you that we will complete Thwake by mid this year,” he stated.
“The money that we had has gone low so it forced me to go back to the African Development Bank who have agreed to add us 7 Billion so that we may be able to complete the project,” he added.
The president has pledged to inaugurate the dam before the end of the year to enable the residents to have domestic and agricultural water.
“I have discussed with your leader that the new timetable because of additional work and additional resources is that before the end of the year, I’ll come and open the dam,” he stated.
The president has further pointed out that contrary to the initial architectural plan, the wall of the dam is to be uplifted further so as to see the maximum harvesting of water.
“We have had a small issue because we were forced to uplift the wall so that we may harvest more water. Our experts have indicated to us that it is better we increase our embarkment so that we can store more water,” he stated.
