NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 9 – The Tourism Cabinet Secretary, Alfred Mutua, has urged Kazakhstan to increase its imports of farm produce from Kenya, especially tea and avocados.
Mutua, who hosted a delegation from the country led by Erzhan Kazykhan, the Assistant to the President of Kazakhstan, stressed the need for a comprehensive framework that will facilitate increased imports.
He cemented that the framework will also encourage skilled Kenyans to work in Kazakhstan and attract investment from Kazakhstan to Kenya.
“I echoed this sentiment, advocating for a comprehensive framework to facilitate increased imports, encourage skilled Kenyans to work in Kazakhstan and attract investment from Kazakhstan to Kenya,” the CS said on his X page.
“I urged Kazakhstan to increase its imports of farm produce from Kenya, particularly focusing on tea and avocados,” he added.
The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), who also engaged in discussions at a separate meeting with the Kazakhstan delegation on Thursday, affirmed that Kazakhstan is keen on exploring opportunities at the port of Mombasa, which will open new supply chain opportunities.
“The diplomat emphasized that Kazakhstan’s development of transportation infrastructure connecting to China and neighboring countries opens up new supply chain opportunities, leading to a keen interest in exploring opportunities at the Port of Mombasa,” KPA stated.
KPA managing director William Ruto also stressed the need to collaborate in the management of dry ports in Nairobi and Naivasha by bringing business closer to the customers.
“We can also partner in the area of Special Economic Zones in Mombasa,” he stated.
