TRANS NZOIA, Kenya, Jan 26- Two prisoners who had been locked up in a cell at the Shikhendu police station in Kiminini constituency, Trans Nzoia county for stealing two cows have escaped.
The two, Daniel Wanjala and Samuel Wafula were due to appear in court on Thursday over the stock theft, before they escaped by breaking the wooden ceiling and then cutting through the iron sheet.
A police report indicates that the two jumped into the report office, where they also broke the steel box armoury and stole one AK47 loaded with 14 rounds of 7.6mm.
“They then dashed out unnoticed through the station main door which was not closed,” the police reads.
Officers have launched a man hunt to rearrest the two and recover the fire arms, and the two officers who were on duty at the time of escape have been arrested to assist in the investigations.
