NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 19 – The Kenya University Student Organization (KUSO) is calling on the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) to release loans meant for students.
KUSO Chairperson Jessy Saruni urged the Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu to fast-track the payment.
“The main agenda of this meeting is to address the challenges which students face as they undertake their studies,” said Saruni.
Late disbursement was causing students mental health issues, pending school fees balances, inadequate accommodation and insecurity within the university area.
At the same time, Juliet Naishurua, a philanthropist and a Kenyan citizen has offered to work closely with KUSO to ensure the needy students in the universities are able to complete their studies.
Naishurua pledged to donate Sh1 million every month which will be Sub-divided among needy students to help with their tuition.
“I will also offer training on financial literacy, how to answer questions in interviews and how to write business proposals,” she added.
Those who will have undergone the training, Naishurua reiterated, will have a chance to receive scholarships, which will help them further their studies.
Naishurua noted that Mental Health is one of the biggest challenges faced by most of the university students worldwide, which is brought about by most of the comrades not accepting the situations they are in.
“I will also look for experts to assist me in offering training to comrades to ensure that they have good mental health,” Naishurua maintained.
