NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 8 – Former Television anchor Jackie Maribe and her ex-fiancé Joseph Irungu alias Jowie are set to finally know their fate on Friday in the murder case involving business woman Monica Kimani.
The delivery of the verdict was scheduled for March 15, 2024, but following consent by both parties the judgment is set to be determined tomorrow after months of delay.
Both Maribe and Jowie, were implicated in the murder of Kimani in 2018.
The two who are out on bail have consistently denied the charges and are hopeful for a favorable outcome in the impending hearing before Milimani court.
Joseph Irungu is the primary defendant in the case, facing charges related to the murder of Monica Kimani while Jacque Maribe, the former TV anchor, is his co-accused.
During the trial, the prosecution presented 35 witnesses who testified against both defendants.
Jowie the first accused was identified as being in the deceased’s house during an identification parade, and there was evidence suggesting a common intention and joint actions to harm Monica Kimani who was tragically found dead at her residence in Lamuria Gardens Apartment in Kilimani.
The prosecution also claimed that Maribe, the second accused, was Jowie’s partner at the time and the two were living together.
Maribe was also alleged to be the owner of the vehicle used in the criminal activity.
The prosecution further pointed out that she allowed a firearm to be kept in her house, despite having a young child, and had provided inconsistent statements to the police regarding the first accused person’s injuries.
