NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 27 – Vivo Energy Kenya Limited and TotalEnergies are among the top Kenyan oil marketers who have lost their market shares in the latest Energy & Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) industry data.
EPRA’s Energy & Petroleum Statistics Report shows that Vivo, which owns Shell, market share dropped from 22.07 percent (1.2 million cubic meters) in 2023 to 21.34 percent (621,226 cubic meters) in 2024.
TotalEnergies also saw its market ownership decline to 14.53 percent (422,822 cubic meters) from 14.88 percent (817,991 cubic meters) in the review period. The drop saw it lose second spot to Rubis Energies.
The decline came at a time when oil marketers were battling with high energy prices amid the ongoing Ukraine-Russia as well as Israel and Gaza wars that disrupted supply chains.
Lower demand for fuel was also driven by the introduction of the Road Maintenance Levy, which rose from 18 to 25 percent, increasing diesel and petrol prices.
However, Rubis Energies, a French firm, market share improved slightly to 15.96 percent last year from 14.05 percent during the preceding year.
Others whose market share also grew include Galana Energies and Oryx Energies.
While Galana Energies market size expanded from 2.62 percent in 2023 to 3.12 percent in 2024, Oryx’s grew to 3.25 percent from 1.55 percent. Hass also saw an improvement from 1.8 percent to 3.16 percent.
