NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 9 – Kirinyaga County Governor Ann Waiguru has urged leaders to open up job opportunities for young women, especially young mothers.
According to the governor who made her remarks at the Youth Connect Africa Summit 2023 Saturday, young women should be allowed unrestricted access to opportunities.
“Restrictions that have traditionally been there that we saw during COVID, that actually we can work around, we loosen those restrictions to allow young women to have access to work, whether they are working from home, especially young mothers,” the governor said.
The governor has spotlighted that one of the restrictions that have enormously hindered young women from accessing opportunities is the fact that when most of them get children, they are limited to how far they can work.
“One of the restrictions to move up their career path is that when they get into the situation that where they have children, there are restrictions to how far you can go to work. The opportunity may be in Rwanda, for example, but you cant move from Kenya,” the governor said
