NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 9 – Businessman Jimi Wanjigi has now joined the Paul Muite-led Safina party where he is expected to continue with his Presidential race following his exit from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party.
Speaking during a press conference on Wednesday, Wanjigi emphasized that he is still in the race after he was hounded out of ODM.
“I did assure Kenyans that I will be in the ballot on August 9th, 2022. And where I will be, its where the next government will be formed. Today, I have officially become a member of Safina party which is once again providing platform to deliver seismic change,” he stated.
Wanjigi lamented that despite his dedication to ODM party he was kicked out mercilessly when he called for democracy.
“We were in a home called ODM and that was the party that I first ever joined in 2018. I joined ODM believing that our ideology, our policies especially espoused in the election of 2017, were still in sync,”
“When we got together as NASA, we talked about Canaan which we envisioned for Kenyans was a Canaan away from what we termed as oppression and backward policies of the Jubilee Govt,” he added.
The presidential contender insisted that it was opportune time to revolutionize the country from the rule of dynasties who he mentioned as President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM Raila Odinga.
“We will never again live under the mercy of two privileged and entitled families working in cohorts with the foreign interests,” he stated.
He pointed out that he will be presenting his nomination papers during Safina Party’s National Delegates Convention (NDC) set to be held on March 21.
Wanjigi praised Safina party as the hope for Kenyans to have a freedom of choice saying ODM party and by extension the Azimio la Umoja movement has stifled the attempts of Kenyans to make a choice.
“Hon Raila Odinga has made it practically impossible for the party to hold free, democratic and credible presidential nominations. President Uhuru Kenyatta and Odinga are attempting to violently perpetuate this destructive virus, we must stop them,” he said.
Safina Party leader Paul Muite welcomed Wanjigi to his political fold saying that the party is not dead as perceived by many and was out to battle it out with all other contenders in all the elective seats.
Muite stated that the NDC slated for this month will ratify the chosen presidential candidate which will signal the quest for the party to change the nation for the better.
“If you (Wanjigi) wish to seek Safina presidential ticket to run for presidency. We want you to go out and campaign then in the NDC we will decide who to give the mantle,” he said.
