NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 27 – Former Marakwet West MP William Kisang floors 20 candidates in the Elgeyo Marakwet Senatorial race UDA party primaries.
This follows Saturday primaries where he garnered 28, 136 votes.
Speaker of the Senate Amason Kingi declared the seat vacant through a gazettement after Kipchumba Murkomen secured a Transport and Roads Cabinet Secretary docket.
The UDA party had rolled a circular inviting interested aspirants to apply for nominations with aspirants in the post of the Member of the Senate paying a nomination fee of between Ksh125,000 and Ksh250,000 based on whether the interested candidate is a male, female, youth or persons living with disability (PWD).
“Following the declaration for vacancies in the offices of Member of the National Assembly for Kandara constituency, Member of the Senate for Elgeyo Marakwet County and Member of the County Assembly for Shella Ward, Lamu county,” read part of a notice issued by the party’s National Elections Board on November 7.
Roads CS Murkomen lauded Kisang for emerging the winner in the party primaries wishing all aspirants the very best in the by-election slated for January 5, 2023.
“Congratulations Hon. William Kisang on your nomination as the UDA flag bearer for the upcoming Senatorial by-elections in Elgeyo Marakwet County. Congratulations also to all the other candidates who put up a spirited fight and performed exemplarily,” read part of a series of tweets on Sunday.
“Let’s now move forward together as one indivisible family knowing that competition makes us strong together as it prepares us for service in our various capacities and different duty stations,” he added.
Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei in a tweet, also congratulated the former Member of Parliament.
