KISII, Kenya, Jun 25 – Kisii Governor Simba Arati has allocated Sh145 million for a ward bursary, which was disbursed to numerous secondary school students from needy families.
The bursary had been discontinued four years ago, with the funds diverted by the previous regime into administration department.
This bursary will enhance learning and alleviate the financial burden on parents and guardians.
While distributing the cheques at Gusii Stadium, the governor said, each ward among the 45 wards will receive Sh3 million for this financial year.
“We shall increase the funds to sh. 5 million in the next financial year to ensure our learners access education in order to better their future,” he added.
The Governor expressed satisfaction with the bursary program, for this will bring an equilibrium for both vulnerable students to access education like those from well-off families.
The county bursary allocated an average of Sh3 million to each electoral ward, and the fund was managed transparently.
“The funds will be sent directly to the respective 1,250 schools where beneficiaries were enrolled to prevent potential misconduct and fraudulent,” Arati stated.
The students would receive acknowledgement vouchers, which they would present to their schools.
The schools’ accounts would then verify the details and issue official receipts.
Governor Arati urged the students to seize the opportunity provided by the bursary and strive for academic excellence.
The governor challenged these students against engaging in immoral behaviors that could jeopardize their futures and undermine their parents’ efforts in supporting their education.
“The county government would hire Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers on a permanent basis once the Public Service Board was established,” said Arati.
