NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 8 – Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition has cancelled their parallel Jamuhuri Day celebrations citing other commitments by top party leaders.
Minority Leader in the National Assembly Opiyo Wandayi indicated that the peopleβs dialogue shall continue in one way or another, in public and in private, in the coming days, weeks and months in different parts of the country.
βThose engagements were awaiting confirmation at the time the announcement of the parallel celebration was made,β Wandayi said during a press conference at Parliament.
Wandayi further castigated the governmentβs promise of offering free technology scholarships for adults who will attend the Jamhuri Day fete.
He termed it βLaughableβ adding that President William Rutoβs administration made the offer as an attempt to woo Kenyans from attending Raila Odingaβs rally.
βWe have noted that out of fear of being outnumbered by the Peopleβs Dialogue Forum on the 12th of December, the UDA administration announced that it would offer free technology scholarships to all adults who will be attending the Jamhuri Day celebrations in person at the Nyayo Stadium,β he said.
βIt is a laughable offer, as usual not thought out at all. However, we encourage Kenyans to demand the scholarships on arrival at the stadium.β
The Raila Odinga led outfit was to hold the anti-government push at the Jacaranda Grounds over the high cost of living, removal bid of four IEBC commissioners, alleged capture of the Judiciary and Parliament by the Executive, Kenya Kwanza governmentβs unmet campaign promises, among other grievances.
