NAIROBI, Kenya, April 2 – The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has revised the Programming Code to include content requirements for both free-to-air and subscription service providers.
The Code applies to all broadcasting licenses and aims to uphold information dissemination standards in Kenya.
“ALL broadcasting licensees are therefore required to comply with the provisions of the Programming Code to ensure that as a public resource, broadcasting platforms at all times,” said David Mugonyi, the Director General of CA.
“Maintain a standard that is acceptable to all sections of the Kenyan community,” he added.
The revised code was developed through a public consultation process and gazetted on March 8, 2024.
Compliance with the Code will be the basis for issuing annual compliance certificates and license renewals, emphasizing the importance of adherence to regulatory standards in the broadcasting sector.
Stakeholder feedback informed the final version that is now available for download on the CA’s website.
CA oversees various sectors within the ICT industry, including broadcasting services, with responsibilities ranging from telecommunications to cyber security.
