NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 24 — Central region Governors have revived the Central Region and Economic Bloc (CEREB) which seeks to boost the bloc’s economic interests.
Nyeri County Governor Mutahi Kahiga noted Central Kenya holds enormous economic potential given the availability of resources asserting the revival of the bloc will be a game changer in the country and beyond.
“Within this region, we have quite a number of the very best coffee and the very best tea, we have minerals in Tharaka Nithi, in Embu, Nakuru is the only city that we have but tourism is key, there are various parts that we can venture into,” Kahiga said.
The bloc bringing together ten counties — Murang’a, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Embu, Nyandarua, Kiambu, Laikipia, and Nakuru — committed to work in unison with the development partners to promote the region as an investment destination.
Embu County Governor Cecily Mbarire stressed the need for counties to engage in different development projects, proposing flagship projects that will cut across different sectors to boost the entire region.
“It is not a must that if Governor Waiguru is doing a tomato factory I must do mine. We can agree who does what and if she is doing something in health I don’t have to do health I can do a different sector,” she stated.
