Court orders fugitive murder suspect Kang’ethe to be held at Industrial Area

NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 14 – The court has ordered that fugitive murder suspect Kevin Kang’ethe be held at the Industrial Area Remand Prison and not at a police station pending an extradition case against him.

According to Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina, it will not be safe for Kang’ethe to be remanded in a police station having escaped from the Muthaiga Police Station.

He declined to grant the orders to have only his counsel visit him saying doing so will deny him his liberty as provided for in the constitution.

The Director of Public Prosecution had applied to have Kang’ethe who is wanted in the United States remanded at the Industrial Area Prison pending the hearing and determination of the extradition proceedings.

Prosecuting Counsel Vincent Monda argued that after escaping from lawful custody, he should not held at any Police station.

Kinyanjui was re-arrested last night in Ngong after escaping from Muthaiga Police station when his lawyer visited him.

His extradition proceedings are scheduled for hearing on Monday to determine if he should be sent to the US to face charges for the murder of his girlfriend in October last year.
