NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 17 — The Ministry of Interior has announced that the construction of an ultra-modern 20,000 seat stadium that will host this year’s Madaraka Day in Embu County has commenced.

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo on Tuesday said the stadium will be completed in five months.

Madaraka Day is a national holiday that is celebrated every June 1 in Kenya.

It commemorates the day that Kenya attained internal self-rule in 1963 after being a British colony since 1920.

This year’s celebrations will mark a milestone as it will be the 60th Madaraka Day.
