NAIROBI, Kenya Sep 6 – A former employee at Mama Lucy Hospital has been convicted of child trafficking.
Fred Makallah was convicted on Wednesday by trial Magistrate Esther Kimilu who relied on evidence showing the accused negotiating on the cost of three children in video evidence tabled in court from the offence that occurred in 2020.
The magistrate, however, acquitted his co-accused Selina Awuor for lack of evidence.
Both faced a second charge of child neglect.
The magistrate ruled that her colleague Awuor was not in the picture of what transpired over the negotiation to have the three children sold to one Rose and a whistle-blower.
The prosecution called a total of 18 witnesses who did not implicate Awuor in the transaction.
The court directed that a pre-sentencing report be prepared by a probation officer ahead of mitigation on September 26.
Both have been remanded awaiting judgement.
