The Embassy of Italy in Nairobi and the Italian Institute for Culture officially launched the Week of Italian Cuisine in the World, a global initiative that runs from November 16 to 22, 2024. Organized in collaboration with the Italian Trade Agency and supported by Qatar Airways and Jambojet among other sponsors, the Italian cuisine week aims to spotlight the richness of Italian culinary heritage, rooted in the celebrated Mediterranean Diet, a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
This year’s theme, “Mediterranean Diet and Cuisine of the Roots – Health and Tradition,” underscores Italy’s time-honored culinary traditions that blend health, culture, and sustainability.

The Mediterranean Diet: More than a Meal, a Lifestyle
During the launch event at domestic Terminal of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, H.E. Roberto Natali, the Italian Ambassador to Kenya, emphasized that the Mediterranean diet is “a way of life, deeply rooted in a millenary tradition. It brings health, joy, and togetherness to all those who embrace it, connecting us to our roots, nature, and each other.”
