Govt settles on SMEs as theme for Madaraka Day celebrations

NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 21- The Government has settled on Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) as this year’s theme of Madaraka Day Celebrations to be held at the Moi Stadium in Embu County.

Interior Security Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo who made the announcement on Tuesday as he did a physical tour of the Moi stadium said the theme is in a bid to improve and spur economic growth.

The Ministry had earlier on indicated that the celebrations would be held at the Njukiri Grounds but PS Omollo clarified that the venue had been changed to Moi Stadium due to reasons related to time and cost.

“The Government has settled on Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) as this year’s theme of Madaraka Day Celebrations to be held at the Moi Stadium in Embu County, in a bid to improve and spur economic growth,” PS Omollo stated.

Currently construction works are fast ongoing at the Moi Stadium which has a capacity to host 20,000 people with majority of the infrastructure set to be ready within the next 45 days. 

The project is approximately set to cost Ksh. 300M.

Micro- Small and Medium Sized Enterprises sector is the second pillar of the Kenya Kwanza Bottom Up Economic transformational agenda, where the hustler economy is based.

President William Ruto has made it clear that his admnistration will support the MSEMs, and the creation of the SME Ministry which is headed by CS Simon Chelugui is part of measures in spearheading the sector which absorbs majority of young Kenyans who join the workforce.

The President in December last year launched the Hustler Fund which he termed as game changer in empowering small business through affordable credit.
