HANOI, Vietnam, Oct 16 – India’s External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar embarked on a diplomatic visit to Vietnam, where he met with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
During their meeting, Jaishankar conveyed greetings from India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi and expressed appreciation for the guidance offered by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in further strengthening the bilateral relationship between the two nations.
EAM Jaishankar underscored the importance of a robust India-Vietnam partnership in contributing to stability, security, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.
EAM Jaishankar also held discussions with Le Hoai Trung, Chairman of the External Relation Commission of the Communist Party of Vietnam. Their exchange of views highlighted the convergence of India and Vietnam on critical regional and global issues, demonstrating the close alignment of their strategic interests.
During his visit, EAM Jaishankar addressed the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, where he spoke on the topic of “India in the Indo-Pacific.” He emphasized the mutual benefits of regional cooperation and the significance of ASEAN centrality. Additionally, he highlighted the valuable role played by the Quad partnership in the Indo-Pacific construct.
Furthermore, Jaishankar emphasized how India and Vietnam, both guided by an independent mindset, can actively contribute to the promotion of a multipolar and rules-based global order.
As part of his visit, EAM Jaishankar unveiled a bust of Rabindranath Tagore in Bac Ninh province of Vietnam. He also had the opportunity to enjoy a captivating performance by the Quan Ho Art Theater group, who will soon travel to India for the 9th India International Dance and Music Festival in New Delhi.
During his visit, EAM Jaishankar interacted with members of the Indian diaspora, recognizing their role in fostering stronger India-Vietnam ties. He also visited the Phat Tich Pagoda Buddhist Cultural Centre in Bac Ninh province, where he was welcomed with warmth and appreciative sentiments by the local community.
The Phat Tich Pagoda stands as a testament to the rich civilizational connection shared by India and Vietnam. During his visit to the centre, EAM Jaishankar met with the Most Ven. Thich Thanh Nhieu of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, fostering cultural and spiritual connections between the two nations.
