NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 9 – Famous blogger Dennis Itumbi has scoffed at former Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti for attempting to nail his cherished friend Jackie Maribe for the murder of Monica Kimani on baseless accusations.
Itumbi asserted he has been vindicated on Maribe’s innocence saying Kinoti used the former television presenter as a pawn in his craving for media headlines.
“It has been SIX years, a journey of shadows, where unjust chains sought to bind the spirit of a great friend, a charming personality, a friend I treasure much,” he said.
“Today, the truth has unveiled its brilliance, dispelling the darkness. The darkness of Kinoti lies and outright script aimed for Media headlines and nothing else.”
Itumbi implored Maribe to file a case against Kinoti for dragging her name in the mud for the six years the murder case has been in court.
“The system failed you and the rogue people who added you in this case just for headlines and creation of a circus should answer and you must not let them walk out of the mess without questions,” he noted.
“Jacque Maribe, like a phoenix, now you have only one duty, rise from the ashes, for time may be lost, but not the essence of your being,” Itumbi added.
Maribe had blamed the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for instigating murder charges against her when all evidence proved her innocence.
Her lead lawyer Katwa Kigen insisted there was no evidence that showed she had motive to kill Monica Kimani.
“She was not at the scene. She didn’t know how she had no reason to wonder I did. And in a way we really blamed the prosecution for maintaining an insistence on this case, when it had no basis,” he said.
Minutes after Justice Grace Nzioka delivered the ruling acquitting Maribe of the murder charge, Kigen stated that since the murder trial began in 2018 his client has maintained her innocence.
“We want to say that throughout the period, her conscience has been clear, and the evidence has never at any time suggested that she was implicated,” Kigen stated.
Justice Grace Nzioka found and held that the prosecution did not adduce sufficient evidence to incriminate Maribe in the murder which occurred in September 19, 2018.
“It is my considered view that the charge brought against the second accused person (Jacque Maribe) was not the proper charge,” she stated.
She was subsequently set free.
