NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 20 – The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) is set to construct five additional footbridges over the Nairobi Expressway in a bid to improve the safety of pedestrians.
In a statement on Saturday, the authority said that the footbridges will be erected between Mlolongo and Southern Bypass Interchange and along the Westlands Section.
The agency also intends to put up pedestrian footpaths.
“The Authority is further committed to improving on the safety of pedestrians and has planned a phased construction of additional five (5) pedestrian footbridges between Mlolongo and Airtel/Southern Bypass Interchange, and along the Westlands Section between Aga Khan School and the junction to Brookside Drive,” KeNHA said.
“Pedestrian footpaths are also included in the scope of works to be undertaken,” the agency noted.
KeNHA further said repair works on damaged sections of Mombasa Road, specifically those damaged during the construction of the Expressway, will continue on a phased approach.
“The project company and developer of the Nairobi Expressway, MOJA Expressway Company Limited through their Engineer, Procure and Construct (EPC) Contractor CALE Infrastructure Construction Company, is progressively working to repair sections of the prior existing Mombasa Road where damage was directly caused during the construction of the Nairobi Expressway,” the agency stated.
The authority added that it was attending to damages made on existing roads and road reserves during relocation of water and sewer pipes, power lines and ICT fibre cables.
“KeNHA has committed funds for these repair works and continues to coordinate with the government utility companies to ensure they effectively attend to their assigned repair works,” the authority explained.
“These repair works under the responsibility of MOJA will be completed before the end of this year, 2022,” KeNHA added.
