NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 10 – Kenyan industries are being encouraged to adopt Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other advanced technologies to strengthen the manufacturing sector.
Speaking at the Kenya Industrialization Conference at KICC, Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) Vice Chairperson Hitesh Mediratta emphasized AI’s role in making Kenya a competitive manufacturing hub.
“Our aim is to make Kenya a leader in the Fourth Industrial Revolution,” Mediratta noted, stressing that AI and sustainable practices are essential for Kenya’s growth.
He highlighted KAM’s partnership with the government and academia to develop an AI-ready workforce.
Themed “Leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Green Industrialization to Accelerate Africa’s Structural Transformation,” the Ministry of Investments, Trade, and Industry-sponsored event explored AI’s potential to revolutionize production lines, optimize supply chains, and improve product quality.
While AI usage in manufacturing is limited, the conference underscored the importance of public-private partnerships to advance AI education and skills development.
It also highlighted the need for funding support to help local manufacturers and startups integrate AI into value chains.
Kenya aims to increase manufacturing’s GDP contribution to 20 percent by 2030, aligning with its vision of becoming a technology-driven manufacturing leader.
