NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 11 – Kenya’s national rugby sevens team, Shujaa, led by example as local sides dominated the group stages of the 2025 Safari 7s at the Nyayo National Stadium, setting the stage for an all-Kenyan push in Sunday’s knockout rounds.
Shujaa were in blistering form, closing their pool campaign with a 20–0 shutout win over the French Renegades to finish unbeaten and top their group.
The home favorites showed attacking flair and defensive discipline throughout the day, extending their strong start after victories over UK Select 50-0 and Walukuba Rugby 28-19 earlier in the tournament.
Shujaa will take on Nyati in the quarter finals, Morans face off with UK Select, KCB clash with Zimbabwe while Shogun lock horns with French Renegades.
Kenya Morans on the other hand, also won all the three matches, beating Reunion 24-0, Apache 28-10 and Zimbabwe 27-7.
KCB Rugby joined the winning ranks after seeing off Nyati 21–7, while Shogun outclassed Uganda 35–14 to wrap up men’s pool play on a high.
In the women’s competition, Kenya Lionesses continued their perfect run, defeating regional rivals Uganda 17–5 in a highly anticipated East African derby.
The youthful Kenya Cubs side also shone with a commanding 22–0 win over Mwamba Select, while defending champions Costa Blanca Barbarians beat Shogun Ladies 17–5 in another quality encounter.
This year’s Safari 7s, the 27th edition, features 12 men’s and 8 women’s teams drawn from across Africa and Europe, including invitational sides like the French Renegades, Costa Blanca Barbarians, and Shogun.
The tournament has already delivered thrilling rugby, passionate crowds, and a festive Nairobi atmosphere. With the group stage wrapping up tonight, all eyes are now on which teams will survive the cut and chase glory on finals day Sunday.
