NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 22 — Education Technologies firm Kodris Africa has offered a full secondary school scholarship to the top student in this year’s Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), Robinson Fwaro Makokha.
Makokha emerged top in the 2022 KCPE after attaining 431 marks, and expressed interest in becoming a software engineer after accomplishing his studies.
Sponsorship announced by Kodris Africa includes full school fees, coding licenses and the relevant tools including a laptop for the four years he will be in school.
The Kodris Africa coding platform, which is approved by the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) , covers learners from Grade 1 to Grade 12.
“We saw on the news that Fwaro would like to become a software engineer. The skill that takes him there is coding, and we want to set him on a firm footing towards achieving his dreams. Coding is one of the most sought after skills in the world today and Fwaro is setting the pace,” Kodris Africa CEO Mugumo Munene stated.
Kodris Africa officially launched the first coding syllabus in Kenya in June this year, and it is taught in primary and secondary schools.
The coding syllabus which is the first to be approved in the country by the KICD was officially launched in Kenya in June this year and is aimed at equipping learners with 21st century skills such as problem solving and algorithmic thinking, right from elementary level.
The firm has also established partnerships with Safaricom, KCB Group, Equity bank to allow parents to purchase coding licenses for their children, and the licence contains a year’s worth of coding lessons and learner materials.
