KISII, Kenya, Jan 9 — Sebastian Matundura, a 61-year-old man, surrendered himself at Gesonso Police Station on Monday after he reportedly murdered his step-son aged 30.
The accused person is alleged to have killed his step-son, Peter Bogecho, over family wrangles at Igonga sub-location Kisii County.
According to a police report seen by Capital News, Matundura and his step-son were quarrelling and in the process the step son was hacked to death.
The suspect then went to his neighbor to report that he had killed his step son.
Kisii South OCPD Charles Machinji said police had commenced investigations on the matter.
Machinji urged the public to solve issues amicably even as he urged aggrieved parties to always report their grievances instead of taking the law in their own hands.
He pointed that there has been a few cases of people taking the law in their hands and warned that anyone who does so risks being punished by law regardless of the offense for which the seek vengeance against.
“Taking law in your hands can lead to victimizing an innocent person or sometime lead to violence and body harm where assault and mob justice involved, this is why we urge you to always report any misunderstanding to the authorities,” he said.
The body of the deceased person was retrieved from the scene of crime and transferred to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary awaiting an autopsy.
This is the third incident of killings within Nyamira and Kisii County raising concern of a surge in homicide cases.
In Nyamira county, 47-year-old Ezekiel Nkeere Gitangwa was found murdered in a nurse’s house on new year’s day with all limbs chopped off according to police.
According to police officers, Gitangwa, who was married, may have been in a romantic relationship with the nurse identified as Agneta Agwata.
Agwata, considered the prime suspect in the case, went into hiding.
Police suspected a love triangle.
In Kisii, a man hacked his two daughters to death and dumped their bodies into a farm. The on Monday granted a police application for his continued detention for a further 14 days awaiting for completion of the investigation.
In yet another incident, a child had his eyes gouged out after he was snatched away from playmates outside his grandmother’s house by an assailant later identified as his cousin.
Baby Sagini’s mother and his grandmother were arrested alongside with the said cousin and are facing attempted murder charges in a matter set for mention on January 23.
