NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 12 – The Ministry of Defence has warned members of the public against fraudsters offering dubious calling letters for the forthcoming Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) recruitment exercise.
The Department of Defence has affirmed on Saturday that listing of KDF cadets and recruits scheduled to take place in August and September will be free of charge.
“The Kenya Defence Forces recruitment drive is free to all eligible candidates,” the ministry said in a cautionary tweet.
“Members of the public are warned against engaging in malpractices with a view to ‘influence’ the recruitment process and are encouraged to report any suspicious activities or characters to the nearest Police Station or Military Camp.”
The ministry urged members of the public to report fraudsters through cell phone numbers: 0726419706 and 0726419709.
MoD issued the cautionary statement amid reports of prospective recruits fundraising amounts of up to Sh400,000 in bribes to secure slots in the country’s military.
The ministry said KDF will list General Service Officer (GSO) Cadets, specialist officers, general duty recruits, trades people and defence forces constables.
The exercise set to kick off on August 28 will take place in all the 47 counties. It will conclude on September 8.
