NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 18 – Nairobi is set to host a major air cargo and transport logistics event this week, bringing together global and regional leaders to discuss industry challenges, innovations, and future trends.
The three-day event, co-hosted by the Kenya Airports Authority, will be held at the Sarit Expo Centre. Africa’s air cargo sector is witnessing unprecedented growth, driven by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which is expected to boost intra-African trade by 25% and increase transport demand by 50%.
Over 2,000 industry professionals and 60 exhibitors will attend, showcasing cutting-edge logistics solutions.
Kenya Airways Cargo Director Dick Murianki highlighted AfCFTA’s impact, connecting 1.3 billion people across 55 countries with a combined GDP of $3.4 trillion.
“In 2024, Africa’s air cargo traffic saw a 6% year-on-year growth, with special cargo—fresh produce, pharmaceuticals, and high-value goods—accounting for 80% of exports,” Murianki noted.
“Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) handled 112,000 tons of cargo in Q1 2024, reinforcing Kenya’s role in driving logistics efficiency and trade growth.”
The summit will bring together key government agencies and trade bodies, including the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and the Shippers Council of Eastern Africa (SCEA).
Industry giants such as Kenya Airways Cargo, Astral Aviation, Ethiopian Airlines, and South African Airways will join global players like Emirates SkyCargo, Lufthansa Cargo, Qatar Airways Cargo, Etihad Cargo, and Turkish Airlines Cargo.
“Hosting Air Cargo Africa 2025 in Nairobi underscores the city’s importance as a logistics hub and provides an unparalleled platform to address Africa’s airfreight needs,” Murianki added.
