NAIROBI, Kenya Feb 3 – Parents and guardians with children attending national schools will soon be mandated to make fee payments through the E-citizen portal.
The Ministry of Education has initiated the process by informing all national school principals about the requirement to collect fees via the platform.
Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang communicated this directive through a memo dated January 31, 2024, addressed to all principals and copied to County Directors of Education.
“The Directorate of e-Citizen in partnership with the Information Communication Technology Authority (ICTA), Ministry of Information, Communication and the Digital Economy, and the National Treasury have been coordinating the onboarding of all government services onto the E-citizen platform to enhance service delivery,” Kipsang said.
Consequently, the school heads have been instructed to submit their bank account details to the office of the Director General, State Department for Basic Education no later than February 6, 2024.
President William Ruto had in June 2023, issued an instruction to consolidate all government payments onto a unified digital platform, to eliminate cash transactions.
He said the rationale behind the move was aimed to boost revenue collection, minimize corruption, and improve overall service delivery.
