NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 3 – The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has suspended the registration of new Environmental Assessment Experts so as to allow for an audit of the register.
NEMA Director General Mamo B. Mamo through a statement on Tuesday indicated that the audit and streamlining of the register will take place between January 1, 2023 to July 2023.
DG Mamo explained the audit of the register has also been necessitated after a review of annual experts practicing license register showed that less than 50 per cent of the registered experts are in practice.
“During this suspension period, issuance of annual practicing license for registered experts shall continue,” the Authority stated.
The Authority since 2004 has registered over 12,000 Environmental Assessment Experts to carry out Environmental Impact Assessment and Audit (EIA) to enhance and safeguard the quality of the environment.
