NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 25 — Detectives have apprehended two individuals linked to a violent robbery that resulted in the death of a 76-year-old woman in Vihiga’s Serem area.

The suspects identified as Patrick Misiko,36, and Christine Jerono, 46, were arrested in Majengo area on Friday.

They are accused of sexually assaulting the victim before robbing her.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has said that the duo were found in possession of the deceased’s mobile phone which was part of the items robbed from the victim during the July 18 robbery incident.

“On the fateful night, the killer gang had broken into the house of the elderly woman in the dead of the night, descending on her with blunt objects and committing the abominable act,” DCI said.

They then made away with the victim’s gas cylinder, a solar cable, phone and shopping, leaving her with serious injuries.

According to the investigative agency, neighbors who heard the commotion at the victim’s homestead responded to her cries and rushed her to Mbale Referral Hospital where she succumbed to severe head injuries two days later.

“The case that had been reported at the nearby Tambua Police Post was taken over by Hamisi Sub-county detectives, where Crime Scene Investigators backed up by their Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau counterparts initiated a forensic trail on the perpetrators,” the DCI added.

Authorities have launched manhunt for the suspects’ accomplices.
