NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 29 – President William Ruto on Wednesday presided over the disbursement of Sh220.5 million in NYOTA start-up capital to 8,820 young entrepreneurs from Kisii, Nyamira and Migori counties, following their successful completion of a mandatory four-day business skills training programme.
The event was held at Gusii Stadium in Kisii County and marked a major milestone in the government’s youth empowerment and job creation agenda.
The beneficiaries were trained in entrepreneurship, financial management and business growth to prepare them to start, expand and sustain their enterprises.
Under the first phase of the NYOTA Start-Up Capital disbursement, each entrepreneur will receive KSh25,000. Of this amount, Sh22,000 will be credited directly to the beneficiary’s Pochi la Biashara account to support immediate business start-up or expansion, while Sh3,000 will be deposited into a Haba na Haba Savings Account managed by the National Social Security Fund (NSSF).
In the second phase, beneficiaries will receive an additional Sh25,000, bringing the total start-up capital per entrepreneur to Sh50,000.
The NYOTA programme targets young entrepreneurs across the country and is designed to promote financial inclusion, strengthen small businesses and support sustainable livelihoods.
