NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 5 – A section of lawyers associated with the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) have distanced themselves from the planned demonstrations against President William Ruto’s comments regarding the prevalence of corruption within the Judiciary.
The lawyers, who opted not to reveal their identities, disapproved of the statements made by the society’s President, Eric Theuri on the subject.
“We passionately beseech our colleagues to abandon the perilous path. Let no one mislead you to sacrifice the interests of the legal fraternity at the altar of partisan political course,” they stated.
They emphasized their desire for serious consideration of corruption allegations within the Judiciary to ensure accountability.
On Wednesday, Theuri had called for nationwide peaceful demonstrations to express support for the independence of the judiciary, responding to President Ruto’s statements that he was prepared to defy court orders hindering government programs.
Despite facing criticism for his remarks, President Ruto maintains that there are elements within the Judiciary working against him, and he is determined to eliminate them from the system.
