NAIROBI Kenya, Feb 16 – Two men on Wednesday in Mariakani court were accused of dealing in wildlife trophies belonging to an endangered species worth Sh 3.2 million without a license.
Joseph Wambua Mutua and Wambua Mutavi Nduti were caught in Kilibasi, Samburu County, handling eight pieces of elephant tusk weighing 32 kg that were hidden inside a white and green nylon bag that was carried on a motorcycle.
According to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), the two were found to have the animal trophies in violation of sections 92(2) and 92(4) of the Wildlife Conservation Act.
“Two men were today charged before a Mariakani court with dealing in wildlife trophy of an endangered species worth Ksh 3.2 million without a permit and being in possession of wildlife trophy without a permit contrary to Section 92(2) and 92 (4) of the Wildlife Conservation Act,” the ODPP stated.
“The offenses were allegedly committed on Tuesday at Kilibasi area Samburu Sub County within Kwale County.”
The ODPP however indicated that the accused, pleaded not guilty before Resident Magistrate Olivia Koranje,.
Each of the two was given a 500,000 shilling bond with one personal surety.
