NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 2 – The World Health Organization(WHO) has donated ksh 4,937,331 ($40,000) worth of trauma kits for the treatment of victims who were injured at the Embakasi gas explosion.
The confirmation was made by WHO representative in Kenya Abdourahmane Diallo, who went to visit the site.
According to the Ministry of Health, the kits will benefit five hundred victims who were burned and will further cater to the surgical needs of those who are admitted to Intensive care units(ICUs).
“The @WHO has responded promptly to the tragic incident in Embakasi, mobilizing emergency trauma kits valued at USD 40,000. These kits are equipped to treat 500 individuals with burns and surgical needs in intensive care units,” MOH stated on X.
“Dr. Abdourahmane Diallo, @WHOKenyaRepresentative, confirmed the dispatch of these kits during a site visit, accompanied by Mary Muthoni Muriuki, Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards,” it added.
In a statement, the principal secretary State Department for medical services Harry Kimtai, assured that the Kenyatta National Hospital(KNH) and other hospitals have been put on high alert to swiftly respond to victims of the tragedy.
“MOH stands in solidarity with the families affected by this tragic incident, offering support and assistance during these challenging times,” it stated.
