NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 18 – Masinde Muliro Stadium In Bungoma will host this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations.
According to the Ministry of Interior, the stadium is under construction and was inspected by the Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo.
“Devolution empowers. We are building the capacity of Counties to hold National Celebrations and Ceremonies,” the Ministry of Interior stated on X.
“The ongoing construction of Masinde Muliro Stadium in Bungoma County, slated to host this year’s Madaraka Day, was inspected by PS Dr. @ray_omollo, Chair of the National Celebrations Steering Committee,” it added.
Yesterday, Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka confirmed the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Sports for the completion of the stadium.
The Ministry of Sports will have the responsibility of providing technical advice, expertise, and support for the construction of facilities such as constructing a public terrace, and public washrooms, and installing audio-visual screens, a public address system, and seats.
“Bungoma inks a Memorandum of Understanding with Sports Kenya @AbabuNamwamba to complete the Masinde Muliro Stadium in Kanduyi according to CAF standards, in readiness for the country’s Madaraka Day celebrations and CHAN Games 2024,” he stated on X.
“They will also build sufficient parking areas and changing rooms. The stadium will be one of a kind in the country,” he assured.
The Madaraka Day celebrations will be held on 1st June 2024.
The construction of the stadium is also in readiness for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) games in 2024.
