April 11 – Former Balochistan chief minister and National Party president Abdul Malik Baloch has declared that his party will not compromise on public ownership of the province’s resources, constitutional supremacy, and Balochistan’s right to self-governance.
He warned that any mining policy that denies the people of Balochistan their rightful share of benefits would be firmly rejected.
The remarks came during a meeting of the National Party’s Mining Committee held at its central secretariat, chaired by Baloch and attended by committee members and legal experts.
Participants reviewed the Balochistan Mines and Minerals Act and engaged in detailed discussions on proposed amendments.
The meeting raised concerns over what members described as opaque policies and unequal agreements in the mining sector, which they said have prevented local communities from fully benefiting from the province’s natural wealth.
Baloch stressed that future legislation must guarantee the province full authority and control over its resources, while ensuring meaningful inclusion of local populations.
He added that the party would finalise its recommendations and submit them to relevant bodies, with the aim of pushing for fair, people-centred amendments that prioritise the interests of Balochistan residents.
