NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 4 – Labour Cabinet Secretary Florence Bore has flagged off 500 Kenyans who are set to leave for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
The CS flagged them off at the National Employment Authority Headquarters in Kasarani on Saturday where she urged them to give their best shot at the opportunity.
“Wished the over 500 Kenyan migrant workers well and asked them to give their best at work as they head to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Qatar,” she stated on X.
The workers have been advised to report any distress call at the Toll-free number 0800222223, or also access the distress reporting forms at neaims.go.ke.
“Remember: Distress cases can be reported on the Toll-Free number, 0800222223, or the distress reporting form which can be accessed at neaims.go.ke,” she urged.
According to the CS, this step marks the Government’s commitment to creating job opportunities for Kenyans following the high labor demand abroad.
“Today’s event is a testament to our commitment as Government in the significant journey of creating employment opportunities for our Kenyans in various countries with a high demand for labor,” she stated.
Earlier in January the Principal Secretary for Labour and Skills Development Shadrack Mwadime said that Kenya has successfully concluded bilateral labor agreements with several other nations, unlocking doors for Kenyan professionals seeking employment overseas in countries like Germany, Israel, Serbia, and Russia.
Last year, President William Ruto defended his decision to seek employment opportunities for youth abroad saying this will reduce unemployment and increase diaspora remittances into the country.
He stressed that the strategic move will further improve Kenya’s economy.
“Kenyans will go out in the thousands to go and work in different countries. There are those who are going to Israel in the next two months, others are going to Germany, USA.” He stated.
