NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 7 – Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, says that the government is working on a National electric policy that will enable the adoption of low-emission vehicle mobility.
Addressing a delegation from Uber which is the pioneer of digital taxi-hailing services companies, in Nairobi, the CS has stressed that the policy will enable Kenya to be placed Kenya on the global map in assimilating low-emission vehicle mobility.
“Currently, the Government is working on a National Electric Mobility Policy which will place Kenya on the global map in adopting low-emission vehicle mobility,” the CS stated at his X account.
The CS has urged the digital taxi companies to generate a business model that will enable drivers and vehicle owners to access affordable funding for electric vehicles.
He emphasized that the move will reinforce the Bottom-up Economic Transformative Agenda (BETA) agenda, which aims to adopt low-emission vehicle mobility in the country.
“ I have encouraged Uber and other digital taxi-hailing companies to support the BETA Agenda in coming up with a business model that will help investors, particularly drivers and vehicle owners, access affordable funding for electric vehicles and bodabodas,” he added.
The CS has also acknowledged the major economic milestone that digital Taxi companies have contributed to in the country, spotlighting that their services have enabled over 65000 Kenyans to access job opportunities that have greatly boosted the country’s economic agenda under BETA.
