March 31 – The Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Abhishek Singh, has reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening bilateral trade relations with Nigeria, with a focus on the mining and steel sectors.
Singh made the remarks during a visit to African Natural Resources and Mines Limited, a subsidiary of African Industries Group, located in Gujeni Village, Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
He expressed support for Indian professionals working at the facility and urged the group to sustain its contribution to Nigeria’s mining industry.
The envoy noted that the plant, situated along the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria Expressway, has attracted an investment of $600 million and ranks among the largest enterprises operated by Indian industrialists in Nigeria, many of whom have maintained a presence in the country for decades.
During the tour, Singh also visited AIG’s Abuja Steel Mills, its exploration unit, and solar power facilities in Sabon-Wuse, Niger State, where he commended the scale of operations. He particularly highlighted the solar plant as one of the largest in Nigeria, noting its role in powering steel production.
In response, AIG Group Managing Director Alok Gupta welcomed the visit and acknowledged the Nigerian government’s support in creating a conducive environment for investment.
