NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 24 – A Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officers is among three people arrested in Juja for stealing a firearm from a stranded businessman whose car was stuck in Kirinyaga last month.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the 54-year-old officer was arrested together with the two other suspects at Windridge, Chai Estate by a joint operation team from DCI Juja and DCI headquarters.
“Sgt William Kabuu Wageni, 54, attached to KDF Kahawa Garrison, his female friend identified as Salome Kimani, and 25-year-old Benson Wanjau Wakiai were arrested this weekend by a joint operations team from DCI Juja and DCI Headquarter,” said the DCI on X.
The investigating agency explained that the victim was had travelled to his shamba in Kirinyaga when the firearm was stolen.
On arrival, he realized that his mini CZ loaded with 14 rounds of ammunition, which he had secured in his car was missing. He rushed back to the scene the same night to look for it with no success. He also went around asking within the neighborhood the following morning but did not find any trace.
He reported the incident at the Wang’uru police station in Mwea East where the ardent hawkshaws stepped in, exploring all intelligence until the recovery of the firearm in Juja, Kiambu county.
“The three suspects are currently aligned at the Wang’uru police station where they were escorted after being arrested. The DCI has assured that investigations are underway to find the 6 rounds of ammunition missing from the firearm,” the DCI stated.
“Investigations are underway to determine how six rounds of ammunition which were missing from the firearm were expended, as the three suspects join fellow guests of the state for the long holiday.”
