NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 25 – Trans Nzoia County Governor George Natembeya, has urged boda boda riders to register with the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) as a step to ensure that everyone receives universal health coverage
The Governor said this as he met with the leadership of the Trans Nzioa County Boda Boda Association at the Wamalwa Kijana Teaching and Referral Hospital.
“My initiative is to ensure universal health coverage for all Trans Nzoia residents. I see the boda boda community as key players in this mission. With over 60,000 members, their influence can be immense.,” the governor stated.
He stressed that the cover is a crucial lifesaving tool that can help the riders at times of medical need and injuries.
He urged the boda boda riders to encourage their colleagues to register with the medical cover to boost his initiative of ensuring that all residents in Transnzoia County receive universal health coverage.
“I started by urging them to register with the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), and it can truly be a lifesaver in times of medical need. I emphasized that it covers more than just injuries sustained on the job; it extends to other ailments as well,” the governor stated on X.
Natembeya said that having an NHIF cover is similar to carrying an extra toolkit, just like a helmet, to tackle the daily challenges they face.
