NAKURU, Kenya, Jan 10 – Njenga Karume Secondary School has staged an impressive comeback in the newly released Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results, emerging as the top extra-county school in Nakuru County and sending 149 students directly to university.
The renowned day secondary school, long celebrated for academic excellence, reaffirmed its status this year after five of its candidates scored A- grades, marking a strong overall performance.
School principal Ben Kamau attributed the success to discipline, hard work, and resilience among the learners, describing the class as focused and easy to manage.
“Last year’s class was very disciplined, organised and easy to manage by teachers, hence the results we are celebrating today,” Kamau said.
He noted that the school posted a mean score of 6.6, placing it among the top-performing day and county schools in Nakuru County.
“Out of 208 candidates, 149 secured direct university entry, which is a big plus for us as an institution. We are happy to have bounced back strongly,” he added.
The candidates were led by Waweru David, who scored A- (79 points), and David Mugo Kiringo, who attained A- (76 points).
Waweru expressed gratitude to his teachers and parents, saying the support he received played a key role in his success.
“I am grateful to God for this result and thankful to my teachers and parents for their support. My dream is to pursue medicine,” he said.
Mugo echoed similar sentiments, acknowledging the challenges of day-school life but crediting determination and focus for his achievement.
“Being in a day school was challenging, but I remained focused and committed. I was aiming for a straight A, but I am grateful for the A- which will still allow me to pursue medicine,” Mugo said.
With the strong showing, Njenga Karume Secondary School has now set its sights higher, targeting a mean score of 7.0 in the next KCSE examinations.
The results have been widely praised as a testament to the school’s resilience, effective leadership, and the growing competitiveness of day secondary schools in Kenya’s education landscape.
