NAIROBI, Kenya, Sept 16 – Financial sector players have formed the Pack Hunters Investment Consortium to explore ways of mobilising private capital for infrastructure projects in Kenya.
The consortium held its inaugural stakeholder meeting in Nairobi on Tuesday, bringing together pension funds, fund managers, stockbrokers, investment banks, insurers, custodians and other capital markets players.
National Infrastructure Fund (NIF) CEO James Mworia, who spoke at the meeting, said the fund would need to work with private investors to finance the countryβs infrastructure needs.
βThe private sector has an opportunity to participate directly in the countryβs national development agenda by mobilising and directing capital towards infrastructure projects that can deliver sustainable economic and social value,β Mworia said.
The NIF, established under the National Infrastructure Fund Act, 2026, is expected to mobilise funding for large infrastructure projects using a blended-capital model.
Pack Hunters president Hosea Kili said the consortium would bring together financial sector expertise to identify and structure projects that can attract private investment.
βThrough the Pack Hunters Consortium, we can create the collaboration needed to move bankable projects from concept to financing and ultimately to implementation,β Kili said.
The meeting also proposed changes to allow Development Real Estate Investment Trusts (D-REITs) to be used as investment vehicles for the NIF and tax incentives for private sector infrastructure bonds.
Stakeholders further discussed crowdfunding and blended financing, including a model where NIF funds could be used to attract additional private capital.
